Having made the decision to finish Book 2 of Books of Loukas, I now have to move into Hammering mode.
Hammering mode, as those of you who have been reading the Interview series will know, is where the blinkers come on and I sit hunched over the keyboard, hammering out the prose.
In order to Hammer successfully, I have to be able to do several important things:
- Move into the setting of the book, and be living there
- Be watching the characters
- Have the characters telling me Stuff
- Suspend all judgment on what I am Hammering
(4) is the most difficult one, since I have a tendency to start re-reading my last paragraph and starting to tinker. This rapidly brings Hammering almost to a standstill as you end up trying to polish the prose.
So, this coming weekend, when not working house projects and hosting wild parties, I will be returning to Hammer on Book 2.
