So, the 2024 General Election is over in the USA, and the authoritarians have won.
Leaving aside the whole area of principled and unyielding resistance to fascists and assholes, which I totally support, the main personal question for authors is; how will this affect your writing?
I have to confess that my writing (as in the Hammering phase, putting prose down) has been pretty much stalled for the last 6 months. Ideation and Percolation have been continuing. Oh yes. For a better understanding of those personal terms, see this explanation.
I expect to pick up writing longer-form books and novels next year when I retire. There may be some teasers and short stories prior to that.
As for the arc of my story-telling, I am an escapist at heart. My second novel series was set in California in the late 2030s, and has futuristic elements which are suddenly becoming very topical. I intend to build on current events to make the world of the novel series more believable and meaningful.
The sketches for that novel series are reading more and more like dystopian futurist predictions every day. When I began sketching out the fictional world in 2018, I imagined California after a massive pandemic. Hey presto, look at what showed up… I think I might have to become a pundit based on other predictions in the novel series sketches…
Ideas are plentiful when you have a neuro-spicy mind and you are neuro-divergent. I have enough ideas to keep me busy for at least 10 years.
So…in 2025, expect some short stories full of filth from Belem, and the first books in the two long-form novel series. As for where they will be published, well, that is a wait-and-see question. If Project 2025 is going to try and ban pornography in the USA (which would require a Constitutional Amendment, or a Supreme Court that decides to abrogate the Constitution to order….ah, wait a minute, they already did that), then I may end up publishing my works on a web site located out of the reach of the US injustice system.
