For several years I (Rupert) have been working on a futuristic novel series, with the working title of The New Society.
It is set in California and other exotic locales in the time period 2026-2035. During this time period, a mysterious pandemic wipes out 90% of the men in the world. At the same time, the USA splits into three new federations.
The society that emerges from the resulting upheavals is rather different. Firstly, it is dominated at all levels by women. This brings change, and challenges.
Other trends and revivals also occur.
Well, guess what? Belem found out about this novel series, and said “I want to write some of it”. I should have known better, but I showed him the sketches and the characters, and he rubbed his hands in glee and went away and started coming back saying “I have something”.
One of his “somethings” is a story that he started working on after I foolishly mentioned the era of Speedos to him. You know, those male swimwear relics of a bygone age. He looked at me like a cat that just found a paralyzed mouse. Then I heard keyboard clicking.
This is Part 1 of Summer Speedos. Now…because this is the New Society, there is a new lexicon in English. New terms, slang and acronyms. So I had to include a thesaurus page, otherwise you, dear reader, would have been furrowing your brow and asking questions like “what the hell is a Virow?” Writing a futuristic novel series inevitably results in you inventing lots of New Stuff.
Part 2 of Summer Speedos will follow as soon as Belem finishes hammering it out. As always, it is going to be filthy. You can count on that with Belem.
